As part of its ongoing Cooking for a Cause series of fundraising cooking classes, Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods presented a check for $2,640 to Fredericksburg Academic Boosters, a group that provides mentoring to students in local public schools.
Group leader Karen Vanek accepted the check from company President/CEO Case D. Fischer at the Culinary Adventure Cooking School days after a sold-out cooking class for 30 people themed Autumn in Provence. Most attendees were not yet members of FAB and came from as far away as Lafayette, La., as we well as from San Antonio, Blanco, Lampasas, Harper and Doss.
FAB was chosen, Vanek explained to the group, for its important work with young people and also because both Mark Wieser (Class of 1959) and Case Fischer (Class of 1983) are graduates of Fredericksburg ISD.
The menu for the cooking class includes Scallops Provencal, Lentil Soup, Beef Bourguignon and Clafouti, with instructor John DeMers helped by volunteers from the audience. In accordance with Fischer & Wieser’s concept of Cooking for a Cause, 100% of the proceeds from the evening of food and wine were donated by the company to the chosen organization.
Other local and regional groups that wish to apply for a Cooking for a Cause evening are invited to contact Nicole Whorton at Fischer & Wieser, 830-990-8021 or nicole.whorton@jelly.com.
