Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods chose the Fancy Food Show in New York City to launch its most ambitious collection of new products in years – a dozen exciting new flavors spread over three different company brands.
For the company, the annual show is a bit like a lucky penny, since its signature product – The Original Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce – took home Best New Flavor honors from Fancy Food in 1997. Today, the once-small company’s 150-plus jams, jellies and sauces are sold in all 50 states and several foreign countries. RRCS, as the iconic sauce is known among its fans, remains Fischer & Wieser’s best seller.
“We never stop experimenting with new flavors, tasting constantly as we go,” President/CEO Case D. Fischer said of the new products. “Though the scope and scale are different, we still think like a scrappy little Texas company trying to wow people with flavor. In that sense, we go to the Fancy Food Show every year a lot like we did in the beginning.”
Fischer & Wieser is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a specialty foods company this summer. However, the company was inspired decades before 1969, when Mark Wieser’s German-born father, JB Wieser, planted a peach orchard in what had long been the heart of cotton country. Those peaches were the beginning of Fredericksburg fame, a legacy that continues at the company’s new roadside stand pressed against the orchard this summer.
This crop is well represented among the four new products in the Fischer & Wieser line: Peaches & Whiskey BBQ Sauce, Peach Sriracha Mustard Sauce, Seville Orange & Fennel Marmalade and Peach Vanilla Bourbon Preserves.
Long a way of thanking specialty food shops that gave the company its first audience, the Reserve line focus on salad dressing and, for the first time, dips. These include: The Original Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Vinaigrette, Peach Chipotle Vinaigrette, Meyer Lemon & Fig Vinaigrette, Spinach Artichoke Dip, Onion Blossom Horseradish Dip and Sundried Tomato & Herb Dip.
Finally, there are two new products in the Mom’s line, long a family favorite for its variety of traditional pasta sauces and other comfort foods. In keeping with the popularity of pizza and the supermarket availability of good-quality pizza crusts, the brand now includes Wood Smoked Tomato Pizza Sauce (Mild) and Wood Smoked Tomato Pizza Sauce (Spicy).
For the Fancy Food Show, food companies come to New York each summer to showcase their wares, as well as taste what is making waves in their industry. There is an additional Fancy Food Show each winter in San Francisco
